Programs for Children Ages 6 Months to 5 Years
Established in 2005, Music Kids is Chinook School of Music’s early childhood music program for ages six months to five years. Our modern approach to music education integrates scientific research supporting the positive role that music plays on brain development and emotional regulation. Join our circle of fun as we move and play instruments while developing fundamental music skills.
Programs for Kids & Teens
Explore the fundamentals of violin playing in this beginner group class. Our young musicians learn bowing, notes, rhythms and more! This class requires a parent/caregiver to attend each class.
What could possibly be more fun than making music with your child? This is an opportunity to bond with your child and explore the ukulele together. Learn chording, strumming, rhythms and notes. Build a collection of songs to perform and play together!
Learn to play the ukulele! Strumming, chording, rhythm, and note learning! Children build a songbook of fun repertoire to share with friends and family.
Many students enroll in Beginner Group Ukulele for multiple sessions for the ultimate learning experience. New musical skills are introduced each session as well as a different set of songs each time.
Develop your musical artistry and learn to perform with confidence and ease! Piano Club is available for all students enrolled in private piano lessons. In each class, students perform a musical selection and receive valuable feedback on their playing, develop confidence in performing and discover new ways of imagining and listening to music.
Song club is an opportunity for vocal students to do what they love most - to perform! In each class students perform a song and receive valuable feedback. Vocalists work on developing their stage presence, musical artistry, breath support, characterization and more!
Experience a creative and imaginative environment in Chinook School of Music’s Musical Theatre program. With a focus on singing, characterization and choreographed movement, this program combines the best aspects of drama and music! Specifically designed for children who possess a passion for singing and want to explore their performance skills.
Learn to play the guitar! Develop note and rhythm reading skills, play melodies and strum chords while building a collection of songs to share with family and friends. Many students enroll in Beginner Group Guitar for multiple sessions for the ultimate learning experience. New musical skills are introduced each session as well as a different set of songs each time.
The Rock Bands at Chinook School of Music feature vocalists and guitar, bass, drum, keyboard and saxophone players ages 12+. Students are guided through the process of choosing and arranging music, developing collaboration skills and gaining valuable performance experience. Students showcase their talents on stage at the end of the session.
Students develop performance skills, increase their confidence in their stage presence and expand their musical artistry! Students are encouraged to find their own unique sound and experiment with different musical genres and styles. Unique performance opportunities at open mic nights are held at live venues in the city! An audition is required to register for this program.
Perform the music you love! Students refine their stage presence and musical artistry as they learn how to effectively design a setlist, create unique cover songs and hone their craft. Our musicians showcase their skills on stage at open mic nights in venues across the city! Come audition for us!
Programs for Adults
Our Adult Rock Band at Chinook School of Music features intermediate/advanced vocalists, guitar, bass, drum, keyboard and saxophone players. Musicians are guided through the process of choosing and arranging music, refining collaboration skills and honing performance techniques. A live performance will be scheduled at the end of each session.
Perform jazz standards from Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald and more! Whether you are new to jazz or a seasoned player looking to get back into it, our supportive environment will help you develop your skills in style, improvisation, performance, and collaboration. Intermediate and advanced vocalists and instrumentalists, piano, bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, clarinet, flute, and trumpet are welcome!
This customized program will have you jamming with your friends and kids in no time! Explore strumming patterns and rhythms, learn introductory picking techniques and build a collection of your favourite tunes. No prior musical experience necessary.
Learn to play the ukulele in this introductory class for adults! Explore chords, rhythms, strumming patterns and learn introductory picking techniques. Build a collection of your favourite tunes! No prior musical experience is required.
Collaborate with fellow musicians and develop your ensemble playing skills! A variety of repertoire from baroque to pop will be explored. Cellists of all skill levels are welcome and no previous ensemble experience is required.
Join a growing group of adult students dedicated to taking their musical skills to the next level. Students of all instruments and levels gather throughout the year to share their music in an informal setting. This is a unique opportunity to develop repertoire, learn from peers, receive feedback, work with an accompanist and increase your confidence in your performance abilities.
Collaborate with fellow musicians and develop your chamber music playing skills. Create beautiful music in an inspired learning environment. Musical repertoire ranges from baroque to pop!
All Ages
Our mock examinations are set up to simulate an actual Royal Conservatory of Music exam with the exception that a mark is not given. Students are provided with written feedback in each area of the exam. Verbal feedback is provided at the end of the session. Tips are given to each student on how they can further prepare and perform their very best for their upcoming exams
